7 Days/6 Nights Tsodilo and Swamp Special Tours Safari with Okswamp Safari Trails

The tour gives guests insights to the ancient history of the ‘World Heritage site’, and culture of the area and to some extent, the geological forces that shaped the African continent. This is also a nice tour for those that want some “physical” activity as we do lots of hiking and exploring once we get to the Hills. The itinerary has been designed to appeal to those whose hearts are thrilled with authentic adventure camping,  Learning and Discovering the local cultures of San people, Hambukushu and Bayeyi people. This tour can run either direction. Normally it starts from Maun and drive for 5 to 6 hours. A pack lunch and water are provided for en-route to the hills. Our guests are encouraged to stick to limited one soft bag type per person maximum weight of 15kg excluding your carry-on hand bags. Tents are canvas two-man dome type with built in mosquito nets, ease to erect your own or with assistant from our crew.

All are meals on mobile camping safari, (unless stipulated) are cooked on open fire by our guide/ cook.  Light breakfast consists of bread or toast, spread cereals, fruits, rusks, eggs and bacon and pancakes. Diner includes pastas, braais, beef seswa, stews and baked bread around the fire. Fresh vegs and salads, will be serviced where possible, note in some areas this will not be possible. Some fresh fruits will be provided where possible. Vegetarians dishes can be catered for but please notify prior to safari departure.

Tour itinerary:
Starting point: Maun or chosen accommodation outside Mau.

Day 1:
flights from JHB arrive at 12:00 or 15:00.

 Your guide will meet you at Maun airport to pick you up and transfer you to a camping site or similar in town where there is time to freshen up. The afternoon is spent shopping for your supply such as water, wines, beers and soft drinks with your guide. You will enjoy different local Tswana cuisine tasty meals from local selected restaurants or hotels (own expenses). During dinner you’ll receive a complete overview of the trip and you can ask all you want to know about the country and its people.

Day 2:
After breakfast (included in your rate) between 06:30 to 08:00. Your guide will meet you and board for about 5 to 6 hours. A pack lunch and a bottle of 500ml mineral will provided for en-route to the Hills. If arriving early we still can explore the hills after making erecting our camping safari tents. We’ll enjoy a dinner around the open campfire.

Day 3:

Early morning tea and coffee, rusks, cereals, eggs and bacon and pancakes will be ready before exploring the hills on foot. We will spend our time in this area walking in the hills (World Heritage Site) to discover the abundant Bushman paintings and learn about the traditional survival skills for which the Bushman are famous.  Lunch will be served at our camping safari site. Afternoon we drive to Shakawe lodge for a sun set boat cruise (this will depending the availability of the boats) into the Okavango Delta enjoying fabulous birdlife and your sundowner. We return to our camping site where will enjoy our dinner.  One course dinner will follow on an open fire or dinning tent and enjoying the evening around the camp fire.

Day 4:

06:30-Early morning tea and coffee, rusks and cereals will before departing to our next destination.

08:00-We leave for Swamp Stop for your boat transfer to Seronga village. Following the meandering Okavango river from major stream to papyrus clogged small channels, while game watching, birding, photographing or relaxing and enjoying your drink on board. Across will approximately take 1 hour 30 minutes to Seronga boat station, depending on what you see. You will be met by James Sausage Tree tours who will transfer you to our camping safari grounds or similar. The transfer is about 45 minutes to 50 minutes. Your guide or cook will quickly prepare some light lunch as you continue freshening up. Afternoon, depart for game drive and have sundowner in the delta, an introduction to the area (NG12 concession). Dinner will be service around open fire or dining tent. Evenings are spent gazing at stars reminiscing about the day’s experiences in the delta.

Day 5:

06:30-Early morning tea and coffee, rusks and cereals will be ready before departing to enjoy morning and afternoon game drives to see the abundant wildlife living on the northern side of the Okavango delta. Depending on water level, the afternoon will take on a dugout canoe ‘Mokoro’ excursion to experience the authentic mode of transport. Lunch will be served at our camping safari site. Afternoon we explore the delta on Mokoro or nature walk which offers a total different experience. Return to camp after a sun downer drink. Enjoy dinner served around open safari camp fire, our last even.

Day 6:

06:30-Early morning tea and coffee, rusks and cereals ready.

08:00- Cooked breakfast will be served

09:30- Start our journey towards Seronga boat station 40 minutes to 5o minutes’ drive. Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes across the same channel to Swamp Stop and board our vehicle back to Maun.

Day 7:

Breakfast at the hotel/lodge or similar (included in your safari rate)

At 08:00 or 13:00, you will be transferred to the airport, or depart for your onwards journey.

NB. Please note this itinerary is very much flexible to suit our guests’ needs. It’s a rough guide of our daily activities and depending on what we might encounter along the way and game sightings. Most water activities are water dependent so if water levels are lower may not be able to do (dugout canoe).
